Will I need to inform anyone If I buy a bike that's original plastics have been changed.

They are a different colour, and from an earlier model of the bike, but fit on.

Originally blue, now red.

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regrebil.htm

Ive checked there but not found any numbers to call or anything.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

there should be a section on your logbook to tell them about colour changes.

I havent bought the bike yet.

I am wanting to buy, but the whole idea of police stopping me and it coming up as a bike looking nothing like the one I'm on is worrying.

Do you mean the number will be available in any log book?

Hmmm maybe the bike was a write off and has been repaired? You will certainly need to be careful if thats the case. The person that is selling the bike should notify DVLA of any changes to the vehicle. If its been written off then you should stay well clear unless you know what you are up to.

He states that someone scratched up the bike and hence hes fitted new plastics.
This was in the summer.

He is 3rd owner. Sounded truely genuine about it al too..

Do you know of what number I can call to find out more info.

Like if I was to buy the bike, what proccess I would have to go through, if anything to declair the modification?

You can get a HPI check done on the bike, its not free but at least you will know if its been declared a write off in the past or if there is outstanding debt on it.As him if he has told DVLA about the colour change.Your insurance company should be told if the parts are off an older model,in the event of you having a claim then you will find that you wont get as much money as you think, and if its been 'totalled' before then you might not actually get anything if you claim.
My advice is to leave it and get something thats right even if it costs a little more. There are loads of bikes like this made up from parts and they are not always what they seem.

Cheers for that.

He says its been HPI checked and its fine.

He called DVLA and they said to authorise on V5 doc and send back -takes about a week.

Will have to think hard before buying..

Its like you said, you need to declare the colour change on the log book and send it off to the DVLA. The other main thing is informing your insurance of the colour change, as if you have an accident and its not declared they will void your claim and all fees will be down to you to pay.
